The Town of Holbrook is a bedroom community of 11,041 people, located south
of Boston. Originally part of Randolph and Braintree, Holbrook has 7.32
square miles within its boundaries. A study of 44 South Shore communities
compiled by the Northeastern University Center for Labor Market Studies
showed that economically the town has experienced the lowest rate of family
income increase over the past ten years. The study showed Holbrook's
family income gain as 6.9% as compared with at least one other South Shore
community showing gains of 40%. The median family income in 1989 dollars
was $43,947, lowest of the 44 South Shore communities in the study
Eastern Massachusetts, bordered by Braintree on the north, Weymouth on the east,
Abington and Brockton on the south, and Avon and Randolph on the west. Holbrook
is 6 miles north of Brockton; 16 miles southeast of Boston; 36 miles northeast
of Providence, Rhode Island; and 214 miles from New York City.
