West Bridgewater is a small residential town bordering on the City of
Brockton, and located at the junction of Routes 24 and 106. It is also
close to Route 495, making the town's accessibility one of its greatest
assets. This access along with availability of land has resulted in
increased commercial, warehouse and industrial activity near the highway in
this community which was once primarily agricultural. The town does,
however, retain working farms which contribute to its scenic character.
The two major roads which cross through the town (Route 28 and Route 106)
have served as the main business districts due to the heavy traffic on
these routes. Particularly notable is the concentration of antique dealers
located in several antique shops and two cooperatives.
The most beautiful spot in the town is the historic War Memorial Park along
Town River, which has been recently restored through the efforts of several
dedicated volunteers. The success of this restoration has contributed to
enthusiasm in other community projects such as plans for a playground,
adoption and maintenance of traffic islands by residents, and a free summer
concert series at the gazebo, sponsored by local businesses and
organizations.
Eastern Massachusetts, bordered by Brockton on the north, East Bridgewater on
the east, Easton on the west, Raynham on the southwest, and Bridgewater on the
south. West Bridgewater is 25 miles south of Boston; 60 miles southeast of
Worcester; and 30 miles northeast of Providence, Rhode Island.
Narrative compiled by the Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD).
